Kirk
Nugent of Kingston, Jamaica, made his formal introduction to the
creative world as a Spoken Word Artist, using his writing abilities
and the microphone to convey messages of empowerment while using
the stage as his platform to speak out against social injustice.
Cultivating
his ability to captivate audiences by utilizing Newark, New Jersey's
spoken word poetry community, Kirk quickly became recognized as
one of his generation's most prolific spoken word artists. Affecting
analytical thinking towards change, he eloquently confronts society,
politics and community. With a full understanding of the power of
"passion and perseverance", he has used his poetry to challenge
audiences to obtain financial independence, spiritual stability
and personal success. Kirk's spoken word accomplishments include
winning the title of 1999 Nuyorican Grand Slam Champion; feature
appearances on CBS' "60 Minutes", performed at the 2001 NAACP National
Convention in New Orleans; a televised public service announcement
to stimulate NAACP youth membership and opening for a host of BET
and Def Jam Comics. His spoken word CD and book "The Unpopular Truth"
is a concentrated collection of some of his most dynamic works.
As one of the most sought after artists in the college and university
market, Kirk has motivated and inspired thousands with performances
of signature pieces from "The Unpopular Truth" that have included
"Forty Mill" ;"I've Come To Claim My Destiny" ;"I Believe" and "I
No Longer Write About Depression".
Kirk
Nugent now reintroduces himself to the world as a motivational speaker
who has shared the stage with famed motivator, Les Brown; political
activist, Rev. Al Sharpton; Poet Mutabaruka; The Honorable Judge
Joe Brown; author, Founder and President of the Bahamas Faith Ministries
International, Dr. Myles Munroe and noted poet and educator, Sonia
Sanchez. Kirk provides valuable and proven personal insight on matters
of economics, politics, societyÍs positive evolution and progressive
community development for all cultures that inspire audience members
to set and obtain goals. Currently working on an autobiographical
account of his life experiences, Kirk's book "I Wanna Testify" is
destined to be one of the most heralded inspirational literary works
in existence. It is under the professional tutelage and recommendation
of Les Brown that Kirk is touring the nation's colleges, universities
and churches to deliver motivational messages that confirm every
person's ability to overcome adversity and conquer imposed restrictions
in order to live their dreams.
Kirk
continues to perform across the United States and Canada and is
currently scheduling events for his 2003-2004 tour.
